I feel like I should be writing about the eclipse. Is anybody talking about anything else today? I didn’t see it, but my kids sent incredible pictures.
I was reminded of the following.
On a very dark morning in the fall of 2015, I was lying in bed with the covers pulled over my head, and I said to Dave, “Please go out there” (there, for reference, being the kitchen) - I said, “Please go out there and come back with some good news.”
So Dave went out there (to the kitchen) and came back (from the kitchen) and he said, “The sun will rise again tomorrow.”
Do you know what? It did, and it does. The sun rises, and it sets. Day after day after day. Sometimes we get to witness the way the sky turns pink or orange or purple when it does, and maybe when the sky is especially stunning we notice. Sometimes - every once in many years - the moon passes in front of the sun and it’s miraculous.
The tides rise and they fall. The leaves bud and unfurl and turn colors and drop. Bees pollinate flowers. Fruits and vegetables grow. Spring turns to summer turns to autumn turns to winter turns to spring again.
And the great world spins.
Today it occurred to me just how many bajillions of tiny imperceptible things have to occur in order to make any of that so. Things we overlook, things we take for granted, things we aren’t even aware of. Things that are certainly good.
Today’s eclipse is miraculous, a once or twice in a lifetime event. Every rising of the sun is miraculous too. Every tide, every bud, every leaf, every flower, every bee, every butterfly, you and me and all of us.
Miracles abound.
Monday:
Two nights in a row of good sleep.
The photos my kids sent from their eclipse viewing spots were fascinating, and seeing them gave me goosebumps.
Andrea treated me to a smoothie.
Now you? Tell me 3 good things?
Xo.
Had an unexpected Monday off just perfect for puttering around the house ❤️ the crisp snip snip sound my sewing scissors make ❤️ a new leaf on my monstera (they look like pale green taquitos) ❤️
