When my kids were young and they’d come home and share that they’d had a good day, I’d say to them - Hold that feeling close to your heart, because good days come and go, and hard days come and go, and it’s holding onto the feeling and the memory and the experience of the good days that helps us to get through the hard days.
It’s true with this practice as well.
Good days come and good days go. Hard days come and hard days go.
If you’re having a good day, make a list of 3 good things.
If you’re having a hard day, make a list of three good things.
The practice is there on the good days and on the hard days, and on the simple and soft and unremarkable days in between.
The practice is steady.
The practice will carry you through.
Make a list, share it, rinse and repeat.
Goodnight
Wednesday:
Nancy and Jim invited me to dinner and it was lovely, with engaging conversation and delicious food and beautiful views. And they had a candle to celebrate my early birthday. I’m touched.
Small acts of showing up for myself.
Palo santo and matches appeared as though out of nowhere. That smell transports me.
Now you? Tell me 3 good things?
Xo.
(And another photo, because I was revisiting these today and why not.)
